Catesby Tunnel Test Facility Manager

Role Description:
We are looking for a Tunnel Manager to lead the day-to-day operation, development, and continuous improvement of the Catesby Tunnel facility. Reporting to the Tunnel Director, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the on-site capabilities, resources, and procedures required to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality customer testing.

The role combines operational leadership, health and safety management, customer interaction, and hands-on oversight of facility activities.

This could include:

• Developing and maintaining safety and operational procedures for commercial testing, workshop activities, and site maintenance.
• Identifying and specifying equipment, infrastructure, and resources required to support customer testing and ongoing facility operation.
• Working with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure all resources and requirements are agreed and in place ahead of test programmes.
• Supervising vehicle testing activities, ensuring customer and staff compliance with site health and safety policies and procedures.
• Acting as a key on-site contact during test programmes and supporting successful delivery.
• Supporting commercial visits from prospective and existing customers.
• Contributing to facility improvement initiatives and long-term development plans.
• Developing and managing an ongoing site maintenance plan.
• Taking responsibility for day-to-day site condition, presentation, and general standards.
• Managing contractors and engaging with external agencies where required (e.g. VCA, HSE, Natural England).
• Working closely with the project ecologist to ensure compliance with Natural England ecology licence requirements.
• Supporting the development of processes, documentation, and operational best practice as the facility grows.

Experience in vehicle testing operations, facility management, or technical site leadership would be a strong advantage.
You must be eligible to work in the UK.

• Experience managing a technical facility, operational team, or technicians would be advantageous.
• A background in emergency services, engineering operations, automotive, motorsport, or similar environments would be beneficial (this role could suit a middle-management ex-fire officer).
• A practical, hands-on approach with a solid understanding of engineering or technical environments.
• Strong communication skills and confidence interacting with customers, senior management, staff, and external stakeholders.
• Experience in customer-facing roles would be an advantage.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office for reporting, planning, and basic financial tracking.
• A flexible attitude and willingness to take responsibility across a broad range of operational activities.
